About Us
What Do We Do?
CubaCasa Ltd is the first professional online booking system for a network of quality, hand-picked Cuban Casas Particulares, Cuba's equivalent of a bed-and-breakfast. We communicate daily with our team in Cuba to provide you with up-to-date information about the Casas and their availability, allowing you to make real-time bookings. On other websites you have to write emails asking about availability, you face language difficulties, and then you end up waiting for a few days to get a response. Thanks to our constant exchange of information with the Casas, we have cut out all these difficulties and if there is availability you can simply make your booking. Thanks to high quality pictures and constant updating of information, our website makes reserving your accommodation in Cuba quick, easy and reliable.
Who Are We?
CubaCasa is a small team of people based in Edinburgh, Scotland, and Havana, Cuba. Matthew Sellar founded the company in July 2010 after finding it unnecessarily difficult to book a room in a Casa Particular, while the owners of these casas also found it difficult to communicate effectively with their future guests and customers.
Most of the photography for our website was done by Jaume Albert Marti and Helena Smith. Jaume is a professional photographer from Valencia, Spain, who currently lives in Barcelona. Helena is a professional travel photographer, writer and editor from Stirling, Scotland, who currently lives in London. Check out their websites if you simply fancy a browse or need some quality pictures of your own.
The web design and construction has been carried out by Border Crossing Media and Adonis Media, both based in Edinburgh Scotland. They have done a great job at building a website tailored to Cuba's unique, challenging environment.
Why Do We Use Moneybookers, Not PayPal?
Unfortunately Cuba is subject to an embargo by the United States of America, which is a legacy of the Cold War. For 19 consecutive years the United Nations General Assembly has near unanimously rejected the embargo but it is still in place and prohibits any American company from doing business with Cuba directly, or with any other company that is seen as working with Cuba. PayPal is an American company and has been known to freeze the accounts of companies or charities that have anything to do with Cuba, so we decided to work with Moneybookers. Moneybookers is a British online payments company that accepts all major debit and credit cards, is recognised by Ebay, has over 18 million members and takes payments in most international currencies. They may not have the brand recognition that Paypal has, but they will not be freezing our website and from a customer's perspective they are equally safe, reliable and easy to use.
