Still wondering whether now is a good time for a Cuba holiday and a stay in a Havana casa particular? Starting 16th November, the day when Havana officially turns 500 years old, a series of celebrations will take over the city stretching all the way into the new year, and one of the latest surprises announced is the arrival of Italian tenor, Andrea Bocelli to perform in the Cuban capital on 28th December.

No details have so far been given about the place where the performance will take place or the time at which it will

happen, but what is 100% confirmed is that Bocelli will sing in Havana next month, much to the delight of a live audience of hundreds (or thousands) of Cubans. We’re assuming it will happen in a public, outdoor space or open-air scenario to give the opportunity to the largest possible number of habaneros to enjoy this one-off concert. After all, this is a celebration of Havana, for its residents, paying homage to not just the city but the dwellers that have shaped it over half a century.

The source that echoed the news of Bocelli’s trip to Havana was made official by the Cuban Ministry of Tourism, published in their website and voiced by Cuban Tourism Minister, Manuel Marrero Cruz, who revealed the surprise during a speech at London’s World Travel Market (WTM) last week:

“Havana will be centre stage to important festivities with renowned national and international artists, like [Italian] tenor Andera Bocelli, who will sing in the Wonder City* on 28th December. We want to invite everyone in the United Kingdom to join us in this celebration”

Andrea Bocelli’s arrival in Havana will indeed cause quite a commotion as he is a revered singer in Cuba, especially the most famous Spanish versions of his songs: Con te partirò (Por ti volaré), Vivo per lei (Vivo por ella, whose Spanish version featured Marta Sanchez) or his version of the Cuban classic, Bésame mucho.

If planning a Cuba holiday this Christmas or just a tropical winter escape this November or next December , Havana will pack a more exciting schedule than ever. The Cuban government will reveal more details of what’s in store as the date of Havana’s anniversary nears, and we can’t wait to tell you more about it!
